Description: |
Perennial herb up to 1.5 m tall; stems with fuscous-stellate hairs and a finer pale green stellate pubescence. Leaf-lamina 2–6 × 0.3–2 cm, lanceolate to linear-oblong, stellate-pubescent to stellate-pilose on both surfaces, somewhat scabrid, apex acute, margin serrate, base obtuse to rounded 3–5-nerved; petiole up to 15 mm long; stipules 4–6 mm long, filiform. Flowers 1.5–3 cm in diameter, red, solitary, axillary and forming racemes or panicles at the apices of the stems by reduction of the upper leaves; peduncle up to 3.5 cm long, hairy like the stems, articulated 5–8 mm below the apex. Epicalyx of 6–7 (10) bracts, equalling or exceeding the calyx; bracts 4–7 mm long, filiform. Calyx up to 5 mm. long, fuscous-pilose; lobes 4–5 × 2.2–5 mm, ovate-lanceolate. Petals 12–18 mm long, obovate. Staminal tube 3 mm long; free parts of filaments 1–2 mm long. Style-branches 2–5 mm long. Capsule 8–10 × 10–12 mm, depressed-subglobose, puberulous. Seeds with white silky floss. |
