Trees, shrubs or lianes, often bearing tendrils in subopposite pairs (see image 2). Stipules pinnatifid or palmatifid. Leaves alternate, entire or toothed. Flowers solitary or paired or in few-flowered cymes borne in the leaf axils. Sepals 5, unequal. Petals 5, free, yellow, with a short claw. Stamens 10, all fertile, the filaments united at the base to form a cup. Ovary with 2-5 fertile loculi alternating with an equal number of sterile loculi; styles 2-5. Fruit a drupe. Seeds (1-)3-5. Worldwide: 32 species in the Old World tropics. DRC: 0 taxa. |
