Erect woody herbs or shrubs, the stems sparsely branched. Leaves large, elliptic; stipules conspicuous, leafy, deciduous. Inflorescences axillary, capitate, enclosed in a capacious campanulate involucre, each with several sessile flowers supported by membranous bracteoles. Calyx tube oblong or obconic, lobes 5 erect, lanceolate; corolla narrowly tubular funnel-shaped, lobes short, valvate. Fruits subglobose or obovoid, fleshy, many-seeded. Seeds small, angular with thick testa and fleshy endosperm. Worldwide: Two species. DRC: 1 taxon. |
