Herb. Inflorescence axillary, subtended by a leaf-like bract. Calyx zygomorphic, 2-lipped; upper lip 4-lobed; lower lip of 1 much-enlarged lobe. Corolla obscurely 2-lipped; upper lip 2-lobed; lower 3-lobed; aestivation contorted. Stamens 4, didynamous, 2-thecous; staminodes 0. Pollen prolate. Capsule with elastic placental bases. Worldwide: 20 species occurring in Africa, the Mascarenes and India DRC: 1 taxon. |
