Trees or shrubs. Pseudostipules present. Leaves opposite, imparipinnate, the petiole and rhachis channelled above. Inflorescence a terminal or axillary panicle or raceme. Calyx spathaceous, shorter than the corolla tube. Corolla campanulate, 5-lobed, 2-lipped, often with conspicuous small glands at the mouth. Disk ring- or cup-shaped. Ovary 2-locular. Capsule elongated, flattened, 2-valved; valve splitting loculicidally. Seeds with papery wings. Derivation of name: named after Sir Clements Robert Markham (1830-1916), English geographer and traveller Worldwide: 10 species in tropical Africa and Asia DRC: 1 taxon. |
